Are you considering either purchasing or building your own computer in the near future? If you are, you might be better offer building your own computer. However, regardless, desktop computers cannot be beat. A lot of people have moved on to laptops and tablets. The fact is, desktop computers have the upper hand over all of them. In this article, we will be talking about the reasons why desktop computers reign supreme over all of your other computing options.
Why Desktop Computers Is The Best:
1. Processing Power.
The fact is, you cannot get the same kind of processing power in your laptop as you can in your computer without ruining laptops advantage of being portable. A lot of people purchase laptops simply because they are incredibly portable and they allow you to move around freely with your computer. However, you are not going to be able to have a small and portable laptop if you want to include the same kind of processing power as in your desktop computer simply because it does not have the same kind of cooling capacity that a desktop computer can have. You can install after market CPU coolers in your desktop computer. This allows you the ability to over clock your CPU which can get even more processing power out of your already powerful processor. Whereas, if you tried to over clock a CPU inside of a laptop, it would likely burn off the casing due to the high temperatures that it would be exposed to. This means that if you are purchasing your computer to do high processing tasks like; video editing, number crunching, or anything else, you are going to be better off going with a desktop computer over a laptop.
2. Graphical Power.
Another huge advantage of desktops is that you can fit a full sized desktop grade graphics card in them. Whereas, with a laptop, you are going to be stuck with using a mobile graphics card. A mobile graphics card is going to have no where near the graphical capabilities of a desktop graphics card. Therefore, you are not going to benefit from the ability to really push your graphics card. Also, you are not going to have the ability to over clock or to push your graphics card simply because the mobile graphics cards do not have the same kind of cooling capacity that desktop graphics cards have. Therefore, you will never see even a high end laptop be able to compete with a mid range computer simply because of the inherent limitations of mobile computer components in comparison to desktop components.
Believe it or not, but desktop computers are pretty much always going to be cheaper than their laptop counterparts if you compare them specification wise. Meaning, if you are looking for a certain amount of power from your new computer and you look at the equivalents in the desktop and laptop ranges, you are going to see that the laptops are a lot more expensive than their desktop computer counterparts. This is a very huge advantage of desktops over laptops. You are not going to be able to purchase a high end laptop for a better price that can compete with a mid range desktop. High end laptops are ridiculously expensive. You are essentially going to be paying for the convenience and portability factor. However, high end laptops with the same type of high end processing and graphical capabilities are not very portable. Therefore, you are not really gaining a ton other than the fact that you can transport it easier and it has a screen attached to it.
While there are a bunch of laptops on the market that are upgradeable, they are only really upgradeable to a certain extent. This is because they are almost always limited by the casing and the size. With a desktop PC, you can get desktop PC towers that range in all different kinds of sizes. You can get some that are as small as a video game console. Therefore, you should be able to find a PC tower that fits your needs in terms of size and upgradability.
