With Christmas fast approaching, decorations are flying and plans are being made. Christmas is such a rich tradition with a very true meaning that brings about those special times year after year. Families gather for big meals, presents are handed out, and everyone celebrates Christmas spending time together.
While Christmas is about as traditional as it gets, people are always thinking of new ways to decorate for their favorite holiday. They get ideas from neighbors, magazines, by looking online, and usually there is one house in the neighborhood that tries to outdo everyone else with the Christmas lights and outside decorations. Outside or inside, this piece is going to get you in the Christmas spirit with several festive ideas for Christmas season decorations.
If you have snow in your Christmas future, good for you. While that is the case for many, for most it just doesn’t happen like that. Therefore, you most likely do not have a snowman coming to your home.
Never fear, Frosty can still be here! Snowmen are a staple of Christmas decoration. You have two choices here. One, you can make one! This can be fun with the kids. All you need is three huge styrofoam craft balls in proportionate sizes for the three parts of the snowman. You can get creative with the rest and put your creation on display either inside or outside. Or, you can go the easy route and buy a snowman that lights up. Either way, put Frosty on display, and if you’re looking for a fun Christmas time with the kids, making Frosty on your own is a great idea.
The best thing to do with children is to have a Christmas tradition where you make an ornament for each person each year. Give them different ideas so that they can expand upon them and get creative. Perhaps one year you have them make an ornament out of their picture, and another year you tell them to make a reindeer. Or, you can let each person make any ornament they want. Making the family Christmas tree look special and unique every year is part of the fun.
Whatever you do, you have to dress up the front door. Not only is this usually viewed from the road, but it is also inviting to your guests. Dress it up with traditional Christmas colors and items, like green wreaths, red bows, pine cones and more. And speaking of pine cones, that is always a popular idea with the little kids. You can decorate pine cones with the kids and thread them together to be a necklace display or door ornament.
With any type of Christmas decorating, it needs to affect all senses. Touch is covered, sight is covered, and now smell and sound have to be covered. You should have scented Christmas decorations so the pies and other foods aren’t the only thing producing Christmas in the air.
For sound, make sure you have the newest Christmas CD’s available so that you can play the latest Christmas tunes. And, don’t forget the classics. There are always artists putting new Christmas albums out each year, and they are all the good songs.
Christmas decorating is fun, and it brings in the feeling of Christmas to others and to you even more. Get in the spirit, and start decorating your home as the season has arrived yet again.
